- この宇宙には重力相互作用しかしない素粒子(X)が存在するかもしれない。しかしXが存在しても、素粒子実験で直接検出することはできない。もしXがニュートリノ振動のような量子振動により我々のニュートリノに姿を変えることがあれば、その測定からXを検知できる可能性がある。実は25年も前からそのような兆候が実験的に示唆されていているが、今だに謎のまま残っている。この問題に決着をつけるため、我々はJ-PARC研究所に新しいニュートリノ検出器を建設し実験を開始した。本講演では、少し大風呂敷を広げながらこの研究についてわかりやすく解説する。
